Dear Rabbit Haven family: Volunteers, donors and support family

Officials would not help! The local shelter would not help! Rabbits are dying daily at this site. So the lead coordinator for the San Jose area will begin tonight, saving as many rabbits as possible. We have to prevent more rabbit deaths at this site! You can help.

This is an all volunteer project. No one is paid. Our primarily objective is to save as many rabbit lives as possible and to bring them to health and safety, spay neuter and then find them homes. All rabbits will be treated, spayed and neutered and cared for.

Every evening rabbits are killed or are found dead at this site. Many die trying to find food or escape dogs that are allowed on the property to chase and kill these rabbits. The situation has become a crisis for these 100+ rabbits. This has to stop! We can do this. We can use your help! With the assistance of a handful of dedicated community members we will rescue the rabbits. Sunday 7-19-2009, the rescue will begin. Today is our first stage one “soft rescue”. Selecting animals from outside the perimeter. These are the ones most at risk.

If you can lend you hand to rescue call me and I will put you in touch with the coordinator of this rescue. 831 600-7479 or email director@therabbithaven.org. Every time you vote, or tell a friend to vote, you are making a huge difference for us.

We also have a couple of anonymous friends of the Rabbit Haven setting up a matching challenge. If the Haven is in the top 15 rabbit groups nationwide or the top 15 shelters of any kind in California, they will donate $250 to The Rabbit Haven. If the Haven is in the top 10 in either of these categories, they will double the donation to $500.
Mighty Mama Bun & Babies!

This mom and her babies have been rescued by The Rabbit Haven! They are safe now, but we have just discovered that the mother bunny is pregnant, and will probably have another litter in the next few days.

Once this second litter is born, the mother will stop nursing the older babies and we will have to find adopters and new foster homes for them. We will also have to pay for spay/neuter and medical expenses for all of the babies until they are adopted. If you can provide a home for these babies, please contact Heather at 831-239-7119 or director@therabbithaven.org. If you wish to make a cash contribution to help with their care, you can donate using PayPal or by check.

This super sweet mother escaped certain death at a meat shop and now needs rescue from the shelter where she was taken. Please look at their pictures and think what you might be able to do to help. Contact us immediately please, she has only two days left at the shelter. We need rescue or adoption for her and her babies, cash for her spay and medical care, and alfalfa hay to keep them fed. They need a space to live. You can find out about how to donate on our donations page. You can also watch the video of the babies!

GO TEAM BUNNY!

Overflow Crisis--Spread the Word!

Large scale rescue - four sites 28 rabbits total

Shelters in Santa Cruz County have been hit with several large dumps of rabbits in the last few days from several abuse and confiscation cases. Rabbits were confiscated by Animal Control from four sites, with a total of 28 rabbits being taken away and brought to the two county shelters. One of the sites was a slaughterhouse, where the rabbits were breeding indiscriminantly and not being cared for. These rabbits were abused and neglected, many of them sick or injured, some adults and some babies. Shelter staff, shelter advocates and rescuers are scrambling to find places for these rabbits to go where they can heal and recover from their ordeal.
We need help from anyone interested in fostering or who may be able to adopt. The shelters were just slammed with 15 new rabbits in a large scale rescue and five more are expected to come. Eight more will be incoming soon from a variety of rescue and abandonment cases. These shelters were already full of rabbits because of dumped Easter bunnies, and The Haven's foster system is brimming full too. Sadly, these large cases will displace the existing shelter rabbits and foster sites at The Haven.
Please call or email if you can foster, rescue or adopt or help in any way! You can reach Auntie Heather Bechtel by phone at 831 239-7119 and email at director@therabbithaven.org. Please help us give these bunnies a chance at a new life free of suffering and abuse.
The following bunnies need homes ASAP:
Pico:

Snuzzle:

Bishop:

Grecco:

And there are more!
